The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the Northeast ENERGY STAR Products Initiative a 2008 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting our environment through energy efficiency. A new report released by clean energy advocates paints a brighter future for New England’s energy future than previously stated by ISO-New England, the organization responsible for managing the region’s electricity grid. Transformer manufacturer ABB has announced support for efficiency standard proposed to the Department of Energy by the Edison Electric Institute and the American Power Association, representing a number of groups including Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships. November

On November 22, 2005 Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney signed an energy efficiency standards bill that will reduce electricity use by about 700,000 megawatt-hours per year by 2020 (equivalent to the average use of about 100,000 households). For more information, please read the press release.

Commercial building managers who are trained in resource-efficient operations and maintenance practices are better able to combat rising energy costs by saving their facilities electricity, oil, gas and water according to a newly released evaluation of the Building Operator Certification (BOC) program.

Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) is praising the action by 15 states, which on Sept. 7, 2005 sued the federal Department of Energy for violating a Congressional mandate to enact strong energy efficiency standards for 22 common household and commercial appliances.
