NEEP, ISO-New England hold energy efficiency workshop
This summer, NEEP joined with the Independent System Operator for New England (ISO-New England) to promote energy efficiency as a way of reducing peak electricity demand. The "Take Charge New England" campaign was launched to educate energy consumer on how to be more energy efficient by "taking charge" of their own energy usage and costs.
As part of this campaign, NEEP and ISO-New England hosted an energy efficiency workshop for New England based businesses on August 28 at National Grid's Customer Service Center in Northboro, Mass.

Facility managers, municipal representatives, and business from a wide range of industries learned strategies for reducing energy use through efficiency. Keynote speaker Alan Mulak, an energy consultant and instructor for NEEP's Building Operator Certification (BOC) program, discussed energy saving technologies such as variable speed motors, tankless water heaters and room occupancy sensors. He also emphasized the ease of numerous efficiency techniques and explained simple, but meaningful ways to reduce energy use such as replacing incandescent lighting with more efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs).

Bob Laurita of ISO-New England also took part in the workshop by presenting an overview of ISO-New England's demand response programs which enable companies to reduce electricity use during times of strain on the grid or when prices reach a particular level.
NEEP has committed to continue working with ISO-New England to help spread the word about the need for the region to become more energy efficient as a key strategy in meeting New England’s energy resource needs.
