BSA-VT is working with the Vermont Investment Corporation and Navigant Consulting on recommendations to move towards residential and commercial energy codes that would be consistent with recommendations proposed by the U.S. Department of Energy for inclusion in the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The new codes could save up to 30 percent more than existing requirements. The residential code is expected to have a formal public hearing this summer. Navigant is conducting a similar evaluation on the IECC commercial energy provisions, reviewing ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standard as a source for commercial requirement improvements. The outcome of both of these processes will be two Vermont adoptions: a residential energy code (RBES) and a commercial energy code (CBES).
