In May 2007, NEEP was awarded a significant project by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to disseminate technical information on the rapidly evolving solid state lighting (SSL) technology. The funding is consistent with the reality that NEEP has been aggressively tracking the development of SSL for several months because of the tremendous energy saving potential the technology represents. DOE now has a TINSSL page on its web site as well!

NEEP will contribute to maximization of the benefits SSL technology promises. To that end, two of our primary objectives are to:

(a) Establish a network for the efficient sharing of solid-state lighting (SSL) technical information to key stakeholders in northeast states, and

(b) Increase northeast stakeholder understanding about SSL technology, performance and applications as an opportunity to increase energy efficiency within key residential and commercial sectors.

Through TINSSL, NEEP will disseminate technical information from US DOE’s SSL research and development efforts to several of the key audiences targeted by US DOE’s solicitation. We will accomplish this by working through existing NEEP projects and information channels that serve builders and lighting contractors, building owners and managers, building code officials, and energy efficiency program administrators (i.e., utilities, state agencies and energy efficiency organizations).

How can you use TINSSL?

It is NEEP’s hope that stakeholders and interested parties will find TINSSL to be their source of choice for raising and/or resolving questions about solid state lighting.
