It's my personal view that the federal government should use tax incentives to encourage people to choose energy efficiency. We already have efficient lighting, ENERGY STAR appliances,"LEED" building guidelines and hybrid motor vehicles in the market. If federal policies move the incentives toward these types of products, people would buy more of them. The increased demand would lead to more innovation, and we would end up with even better energy-efficient products available for consumers. The societal benefits of such policies include: lower long term costs, reduced emissions, a reduced national trade imbalance, and conservation of increasingly scarce resources for future generations.

If I were in charge of the country and had a wand as good as Harry Potter’s, I would make Americans understand, at a deep and heartfelt level, the seriousness of the energy and climate issues facing the planet.
