About the Exchange

Managed by NEEP, the Northeast High Performance Schools Exchange was established in 2003 to lead the region towards the long-term goal of, by 2010, implementing high performance design and construction principles in the majority of new and renovated schools to provide excellent learning and teaching environments that are energy efficient, cost-effective and use sustainable technologies.

With a focus on serving local communities, NEEP facilitates partnerships with state energy offices and ratepayer-funded energy efficiency program administrators to advance the development, adoption and implementation of high performance school design principles. Currently, Exchange projects are funded by the Henry P. Kendall Foundation, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and project underwriters including ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs in Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts and New York.

The Exchange serves as a resource for state school funding agencies, design professionals, builders, and school districts seeking information about the "how and why" of high performance design. The Exchange provides the following services:

• An electronic newsletter that publishes research on the costs and benefits to student learning of high performance schools, tracks high performance school building construction and performance in the New England states, and provides links to other sources of information about design and construction principles.

• Direction, information and expertise supporting the adoption and implementation of a regional set of standards or guidelines for high performance schools in the New England states.

• General and school-specific workshop training on constructing or renovating schools to meet high performance building principles.

• Training - Contact the Exchange to learn more about programs offered for building operators, facilities managers, financial managers in the operation and maintenance of school facilities.
